Dress Ideas for Fall Family Photos

Hey Mama!

As a photographer, my job is not only to take beautiful photos of your family, but also to help you with every step along the way including helping you choose the perfect outfits for your family! Today I’m sharing a few of my favorite dresses for family photos! But first, let me share a few rules of thumb when it comes to outfits for family photos.

Let’s talk about the goals when it comes to your family photos. You want a timeless, not trendy, look, because these photos are going to last forever and be passed down to future generations. You want your family to be the main focus in the photos. You want the love, joy, and connection between you to jump out in the photos. So what you DON’T want is outfits that distract from that main focus. Neutrals, soft colors, and pastels photograph beautifully. In the fall, darker muted colors can work well. But avoid bright, bold, vivid colors as they can be very distracting. Soft patterns work well but avoid loud, distracting patterns. Also, avoid small stripes because it can cause moire in photos. Also, remember to keep it to no more than two patterns for the entire family to avoid clashing.

For mamas, long flowy dresses are absolutely perfect for family photos! My rule of thumb is to choose mom’s dress first and then build the rest of the family’s outfits around that. It’s important to look and feel your best in your family photos. Flowy dresses are so flattering, classy, and timeless! Check out a few of my favorites below!
