I photographed this session for an actuary who was preparing to present at an upcoming conference. She needed updated headshots that felt polished, confident, and approachable, while still feeling natural and true to who she is. Instead of going the traditional studio route, we chose an outdoor location at Furman University here in Greenville, South Carolina and it could not have been more perfect.
The soft, natural light, the greenery, and the clean, timeless pathways gave us so much variety while still keeping everything cohesive and elevated. This is one of my favorite approaches for professional headshots because it adds warmth and personality while still keeping things very professional.
During the session, we focused on a mix of looks to give her versatility for different uses. We captured classic, straight-on headshots that are perfect for conference materials, LinkedIn, and speaking engagements. We also added in slightly more relaxed and candid images that feel approachable and great for websites, social media, and branding.
One of the biggest goals for this session was helping her feel confident and comfortable in front of the camera. Most people I work with tell me they feel awkward getting their photo taken, especially for something as important as a professional headshot. My job is to guide you through the entire process so you never have to wonder what to do with your hands, how to stand, or how to get a natural smile. You can see in these images how relaxed and confident she looks and that always leads to the best photos.
I also love that she brought two different outfits. The green look feels strong, polished, and grounded, while the lighter outfit brings in a softer, more approachable feel. Having multiple outfit options is one of the easiest ways to get more variety from your session and make sure your photos work across different platforms.
