Lifestyle In Home Newborn Photos in Simpsonville
There is something so special about walking into a family’s home for newborn photos, especially when I have already had the joy of photographing them before.
I first worked with this sweet family for family photos, so getting to see them again as they welcomed their third baby girl, Olivia, felt extra meaningful. This time, instead of meeting for outdoor family photos, I came to their home in Simpsonville, South Carolina for a cozy, sentimental in-home newborn session.
Their family wore the prettiest soft blue tones, baby Olivia was wrapped in a simple white swaddle with the sweetest floral bow, and her purple nursery added such a delicate, feminine touch to the gallery.
A Sweet In-Home Newborn Session in Simpsonville, SC
One of my favorite things about in-home newborn photography is how personal it feels. Your home becomes the backdrop for the memories you are living right now.
For Olivia’s newborn photos, we used a few different rooms throughout their home, including the master bedroom, nursery, and living room. Each space gave us a different feel while still keeping the whole session relaxed, natural, and true to their family.
We started with simple newborn portraits of Olivia swaddled in white on the bed. These classic, peaceful images are always some of my favorites because they focus on all the tiny details that change so quickly, like little toes, sleepy smiles, soft newborn cheeks, and that sweet curled-up newborn shape.
Newborn Photos with Big Siblings
Since Olivia is baby number three, we made sure to include plenty of photos with her older siblings too.
Sibling photos during newborn sessions can be some of the sweetest and most unpredictable parts of the day, especially with little ones. I never expect young children to sit perfectly still for a long time. Instead, I keep things gentle, playful, and quick so we can capture real connection without putting too much pressure on anyone.
Olivia’s big sister was so proud to hold her, and those images of the two girls together are the kind of photos I know their family will treasure forever. There is something so tender about seeing a new big sibling love on the baby, especially in those first few weeks when everyone is still settling into their new family rhythm.
Soft Blue Outfits and a Purple Nursery
This family chose soft blue outfits for their session, and it photographed so beautifully with the light, airy feel of their home. Mom and big sister wore coordinating blue dresses, and the colors tied everything together in such a sweet and timeless way.
Olivia’s nursery was purple, which added a soft and feminine touch to some of the images. I always love incorporating the nursery during in-home newborn sessions because so much thought and love goes into preparing that room before baby arrives. Even if the baby does not sleep in the nursery right away, it is still such a meaningful part of their story.
We also used the living room for family photos, including images of all three children together with mom. These are often the photos that feel the most like real life, everyone gathered together in the home where so much of this new season is unfolding.
Why I Love In-Home Newborn Photography
In-home newborn sessions are perfect for families who want beautiful, natural photos without the stress of leaving the house right after having a baby.
You do not need a perfectly decorated home. You do not need every room spotless. You do not need to know how to pose your baby or your family. I guide the entire session and use the best light and spaces in your home.
During Olivia’s session, we moved slowly, followed baby’s cues, and made sure everyone felt comfortable. That is one of the biggest benefits of in-home newborn photos. The session feels relaxed and flexible, which is especially helpful when there are older siblings involved.
A Full-Circle Moment with This Family
One of the greatest honors of this job is getting to photograph families through multiple seasons.
I love when families come back after a previous session because there is already a sense of comfort and trust. I have seen their children grow, and I get to document the next chapter of their story. For this family, that next chapter was welcoming their third baby, Olivia, into their home and their hearts.
These are the kinds of sessions that remind me why newborn photography is so meaningful. It is not just about tiny baby portraits, although those are precious too. It is about preserving the feeling of this season. The sleepy newborn snuggles, the proud big siblings, the quiet moments in the master bedroom, the nursery you lovingly prepared, and the way your family looked right at the beginning of a brand-new chapter.
