I’m Michelle, the face (and heart) behind Michelle Poteet Photography!
As a mom of two precious little girls (and wife to the love of my life), I know firsthand how quickly this season of life flies by. The tiny toes, sweet giggles, and tender snuggles—it’s all so fleeting. That’s exactly why I’m so passionate about helping families like yours preserve these beautiful moments forever.
With over 10 years of experience (including 7 years as a wedding photographer), I’ve learned how to capture genuine emotion, handle any lighting situation, and keep sessions fun and stress-free—even for busy toddlers and sleepy newborns (and sometimes grumpy dads).
My photography isn’t just about pretty pictures; it’s about preserving the love, joy, and connection that make your family so special. I want you to look back at your photos and videos years from now and feel the warmth, laughter, and love all over again.
I’m also proud to be Greenville’s first family photographer to offer highlight videos—a truly magical way to relive this season of life. While photos freeze moments, videos bring them back to life. Imagine hearing your baby’s sweet coos or seeing your toddler’s wobbly first steps again and again.
The Mini Session Experience
What is a mini session with me like? Most families tell me they are pleasantly surprised by how stress free the experience is! Especially if they’ve had family photos photos taken with other photographers in the past. My goal is to make my sessions fun for the whole family - including energetic toddler and the dads who hate photos.
My sessions are fun and relaxed! I start by making sure we get those important family portraits, looking and smiling at the camera. Then, I capture breakdowns and different groupings. And anything else you would like to focus on (I send out a questionnaire in advance in order to get to know your family and learn what is important to you with your family photos). And then, I like to spend the rest of the mini session playing, creating connection, and capturing beautiful candids that show off your family’s unique bond.
I aim for tons of variety with an emphasis on capturing love, joy, and playfulness. I love to get get the siblings loving on each other to show off their friendship. Plus lots of tickling and shoulder rides for those energetic toddlers.

Again, as your photographer, I know what photographs best, and I’m here to help you every step of the way! I also include links to all of my favorite places to shop for moms, dad, and kids!

Before your session, I send out a prep guide to help you handle the tricky details like getting your kids excited for the photos, how to handle bribes, and how to ensure a smooth and stress free experience!

Frequently Asked Questions
Can we purchase more photos than our package comes with?
Yes! I send over your gallery with all of your photos for you to choose from! If you would like to purchase more photos than your package comes with, additional downloads are $25 per photo or $250 for the full gallery (usually 50-200 photos).
How Does the Booking Process Work?
As soon as you are ready, you can book your date and time by clicking here. Choose your date and time on my calendar, agree to the terms, and pay your session fee to officially book!
Out of fairness to all of my clients, I cannot hold a date for any reason without payment and an official booking.
What if we are awkward in front of the camera?
PLEASE don't worry about this at all! Almost everyone says this! It's my job as your photographer to help you feel relaxed and natural, so that you look your best. You don't have to come up with any poses or ideas. That's my job! Of course, if there are specific things you want, I'm happy to capture those for you as well!
What is your turn around time?
I always have your gallery back to you within 1-2 weeks!
What is a family session with you like?
First, I start with those important looking and smiling photos and break down the family unit into different combinations, making sure to capture any special request photos for you. Then, the rest of the session is all about playing. Moms, kids, and even dads have SO much fun during my family sessions. The dads always tell me at the end of the session that they are surprised at how much they loved it. My goal is to use fun prompts to create authentic family moments. I love candid photos filled with genuine connection. Your family will think of this session as a really fun family memory where they all got to play and love on each other. Then, I end with one last looking and smiling photo. I aim to create a gallery filled with tons of variety for you to choose from!
What can mini sessions be used for?
You can use a mini session for any type of session! From family to headshots to seniors to maternity to newborn!
