Biltmore Family Photographer
I absolutely loved working with this sweet family at the Biltmore today! I couldn't help but go ahead and get a few sneak peeks onto the blog for some same say sneak peeks! I loved getting to take photos at some spots I don't normally use. Typically I shoot along the trails with the beautiful blue ridge mountains in the background. However, for this Biltmore family session, we really wanted to feature the stunning Biltmore house. We started with the stunning arches in front of the house. Then we moved over to the balcony, so we could get the beautiful view of the Blue Ridge Mountains!
I don't think I will ever get over how stunning the view of the Blue Ridge Mountains really is from the Biltmore, and especially from this gorgeous balcony! It was a challenge to photograph this session around all of the other photographers that were photographing session at the Biltmore today. Not to mention all the weddings that were taking place! But I'm so happy with the beautiful family photos that we were able to capture!

Greenville Pregnancy Announcement Photographer
I'm so excited to finally be able to share these pregnancy announcement photos with you all! We took these sweet photos of the the Norman family with their ultrasound photos during their family session last month! I shared their family photos, and I'm finally able to share the surprise: their pregnancy announcement photos that we included in their family session!
We took these photos on the campus of Furman University, my absolute favorite location in Greenville to take family photos. My favorite part of the session was getting to take photos of their 18 month old holding the ultrasound photos! I always love including those photos of the new big sibling with the ultrasound!
Jake purchased a gift card for this session for his wife, Elizabeth back in May for Mother's Day! I love that! It's such a sweet gift idea that moms absolutely LOVE! Family photos are the BEST gift for mamas! Elizabeth reached out to me when she found out that she was pregnant with her second baby to use this family session gift card for her family photos along with her pregnancy announcement photos! It was such a fun session for me since it was essentially a combination of two of my favorite types of photography sessions!
Enjoy a few of my favorite photos of this pregnancy announcement below!

How To Pivot Your Photography Business
Hey Photographer!
If you’ve been following along with my photography business journey from the beginning, then you’ve seen me pivot my business over the last few years.
Here’s a little recap of my journey if you’re new to following me:
I graduated college in 2015 with degrees in finance and economics and a minor in leadership studies. I wasn’t loving my desk job, so I bought a camera as a little creative outlet. Within one year of buying my first camera, I was able to take my business full time, because I had matched my photography income to my salary as a financial analyst.
At that time, I was a wedding photographer. I took on my first wedding within three months of buying that camera, and my business took off from there!
A few years ago, I moved to Greenville, South Carolina and pivoted into family photography.
It was hard relocating my business, switching my niche, and having to essentially start over. But there’s a few things I learned along the way that I want to share with you.
Show what you want to sell
I know we hear this ALL the time as photographers, but I want to dive into how this really played out for me. I thought I could show a few family photos mixed into my wedding portfolio and moms would see I was a good photographer and want to hire me. But it didn’t work that way. People want to see a portfolio full of what they are looking to hire you for.
Once I had a FULL family portfolio, I started getting hired for family photos. The more family sessions I photographed, the more inquiries I would get. And the bigger my repertoire of candid, fun, loving, joyful poses, the more ideal client inquiries I got.
Honestly, this can even get super specific. For example, I noticed that when my portfolio mainly included families with one child, I would mainly get inquiries for families with one child. When my portfolio started included families with more children, I started getting more inquiries from families with more children. People want to see people like themselves in your portfolio!
2. Update Your Website and Social Media
I’m sure you’ve heard this a lot, but it’s so important to niche down. Potential clients want to know that you specialize in exactly what they’re looking for. When my website and Instagram bio still said that I was a wedding photographer, it confused mamas who were looking for a family photographer. As soon as I updated my platforms to call myself a family photographer and updated the hero images on my website to be family photos, that’s when I started getting a ton more inquries.
3. It’s okay to transition slowly
If you’re still getting tons of inquiries for you old niche and struggling to get inquiries for your new niche, it’s okay to keep taking on those jobs if you need the money as you work on the transition BUT you may not want to show those photos on your social media or blog. Keep focusing on showing what you want to sell!
I hope this was helpful! If you have any questions about pivoting your photography business, leave me a comment below! And if you’re a family photographer looking for FUN posing ideas that mamas love, check out my family posing guide.
My Own Family Photos
While we were back in Indiana for a week (from where we live, in Greenville, South Carolina) for my sister's wedding, we got our own family photos taken with one of my personal favorite photographers, Kaylee Creighton! Kaylee and I have been friends since we were both baby photographers, just starting out in the business! It's been so fun to watch how much both of us and our work and our businesses have grown and developed, and gotten better and better over the years!
We decided to take our family photos at the spot that Mark and I got engaged! He proposed at the War Memorial in downtown Indianapolis! It was so special to take Lily there for the first time! It was our first time being back there since we got engaged as well! Since we moved to Greenville, South Carolina shortly after.
Now that Lily is one and constantly on the move, taking family photos has definitely become more challenging. This age is SO much fun though, and I am so thankful to have gotten to capture this phase of life with our little family! To my fellow mamas, I promise that photographing family photos with your toddlers is not only possible, but SO much fun! Finding a photographer who is great with toddlers is the key!
Enjoy a few of my favorite photos from my own family session below! I'm so excited to share these with you!

My Little Sister's Wedding
My baby sister got married over the weekend at my favorite venue, Laural Hall in Indianapolis. Being a wedding photographer for so many years, I had tons of vendor recommendations for my sister, and luckily she trusted me enough to take most of my recommendations! She booked my favorite wedding planner, Amanda from Magical Moments Event Planning. And Amanda recommended the rest of the vendors, like the amazing band! Another vendor that did an increadible job was the florist, Molly and Myrtle! The florals were so beautiful, and she grew a lot of them right in her own backyard! I love that! Florals are always one of my favorite parts of a wedding!
I was so lucky that Nicole and Brandon’s photographer, Cat Satre, was kind enough to let me tag along for the bride and groom photos and take some extra photos for Nicole and Brandon! I can’t wait to see Cat’s photos from Nicole and Brandon’s wedding day!
I took a few photos of Nicole while she got ready, I took photos during their first look and bride and groom portraits, and I took photos during their exit for the night, so those are the photos that you'll see below!
I hope you enjoy a few of my favorite photos from Nicole and Brandon's wedding day at Laurel Hall!
P.S. If you’re a photographer, and you want to get your hands on the presets I used for these photos, they’re for sale over in the shop!

Three Things I Bring to Family Sessions That Improve my Photos
Hey Photographer!
I used to be a stickler for not bringing any props to my photo sessions. For the most part, I think props tend to look cheesy and low-end. BUT as I’ve photographed more and more families, I’ve realized that there are a few items I need to bring with me to help me get amazing photos, especially with the little ones! So lately, I’ve started bringing three things with me to every family session, and it has really helped improve my photos and make the session more fun for families and kids!
A light up wand to get little one’s attention
Here is a link to the exact one I use! When babies and toddlers are struggling to pay attention for those important looking and smiling photos, I hold my light up wand close to my camera! This almost always does the trick for getting kids to look at me and smile! I can also use it as a reward during the session! After getting some photos that I need, I let the kids hold the wand and play with it when they need a break! Using rewards is one way that I get kids to like and trust me and have fun with me during our photo session!
2. A Blanket For the Family to Sit on
For me, during family sessions, the name of the game is variety. I love to get TONS of variety in posing during family photos, and that includes sitting and laying down photos! Most families don’t love to lay in the dirt in their nice dresses (which is totally fair), so this cute blanket helps with getting families to feel comfortable.
P.S. If you need help with making sure you have lots of variety of FUN poses during your family sessions, you can download my free posing guide here.
3. Books to read
And the last thing I bring is books to read! I found some cute, neutral books. I use them when it seems like the kids need a break from being told what to do. I let one of the parents read to the kids, and they LOVE it. And as a bonus, I get adorable photos out of it!
I hope this was helpful! Want to tailor your prompts and poses to each specific family? You can download the questionnaire that I send to all of my clients for FREE by clicking here!
Asheville Vacation Photographers
I had such a fun morning with the Cannon family at their airbnb here in the Asheville area! So many families are on vacation in Asheville this time of year, and I love getting to work with so many sweet families while they are here on vacation! October is the perfect time to visit the Blue Ridge mountains of Asheville, the Biltmore, and the Blue Ridge Parkway. The fall colors are just stunning this time of year.
The Cannon's had the most beautiful airbnb with an amazing mountain view in a little town near Flat Rock, North Carolina. It was definitely one of the most beautiful home I've ever seen with the most amazing mountain view!
I love getting to photograph extended family sessions! It's so fun to take photos of the entire family together as well as break downs of each of the individual families. It's also a perfect time to get photos of the grandparents with their grandkids and just the couples! I mean, how often do you get to take professional couples photos with your significant other after you get married?
I highly recommend hiring a vacation photographer the next time you take a trip - especially here in Asheville! Enjoy a few of my favorite photos of this sweet family below! And reach out to me if you're looking for a photographer in the Asheville area! I would love to work with you!

In home Newborn Session | Greenville, South Carolina
On Saturday morning, I had the absolute pleasure of photographing a sweet newborn session for baby Matthew and his mom and dad. In home newborn sessions are so sweet and fun. They are some of my absolute favorite sessions to photograph. I love getting to document those precious first few weeks at home with a new baby. The great thing about in home newborn sessions is that it gives me an opportunity to capture the love of a family in a very relaxed atmosphere. And I get to include the whole family in the photos including mom, dad, siblings, and pets! In Matthew's photos, I got to include his dog, Charlie, which was so sweet!
A common worry that a lot of parents have is that they don't want to have to worry about making sure their home is clean for photos while taking care of a newborn. But I promise, your home does not have to be clean and your nursery doesn't even have to be fully set up! I can always find a great spot for photos. Whether it's a small corner with a rocking chair, the front door way, or in the case of this session, I just had everyone sitting in the front entryway! Those turned out to be my favorite photos from the whole session.
Enjoy a few of my favorites from this sweet newborn session below!

Furman University Family Photos
Last night's family session had the craziest weather! Our session was originally scheduled in the morning, but since the forecast called for rain, we moved our session to the evening, which was supposed to be nice and sunny. When I arrived at our session location of the Shi Institute at Furman University, it was beautiful but cloudy. 10 minutes into our session, it started POURING rain and we had to run for cover. We waited for about 15 minutes and then the sun popped through and we ended up with a stunning golden hour! I'm so happy that we stuck it out and ended up with such beautiful family photos of these three. It was such a fun session with mom dad and toddler. Toddlers are so fun and I always love getting to photograph them!
I was so happy that Elizabeth and Jake totally trusted my recommendations for their location for their session! I use Furman University often but I'm usually over by the Rose Garden or the lake and mountain view. I have been wanting to use the Shi Institute for Family photos for so long, and these turned out so beautiful! I love the little koi pond and trails around the main house. We also used the sustainability gardens behind the garden. The vegetable gardens and trees make for such a pretty back drop in my opinion!
Check out some of my favorite photos from this cute family photo session!

Shi Institute Family Photos
The Williams' family session at the Shi Institute was one of my all time favorite family photo sessions! It makes my photographer heart so happy when families completely trust me as their photographer for every aspect of their photo session from location to wardrobe to poses to how to make their kids have fun during our photo session! This sweet family had so much faith in me as their family photographer, and I think the results speak for themselves!
The Shi Institute is a recent favorite location of mine! All of my clients and anyone who follows me on Instagram definitely knows how much I love Furman University's campus. I'm obsessed with the Rose Garden and the Lake Loop trail and the mountain view. But I've been dying to try something a little different. I'm so glad that this sweet family completely trusted me to choose the best location. The koi pond and gardens are stunning, and the sustainable vegetables gardens have the most beautiful lighting in the morning. One of the main things I look for in a location is amazing backlighting. The vegetable gardens definitely have that!
I hope you love a few of my favorite photos from this sweet and fun family photo session at the shi Institute at Furman University! It was one of my all time favorites! Rock Quarry Bridal Portraits
After spending 6 years of my career as a wedding photographer, it's been over a year since I photographed my last wedding. I specialize in motherhood, family, maternity, and newborn photography now, but it made my heart so happy to get to take bride and groom portraits again for Natalie and Tim last night. Natalie and Tim got married in August, and she reached out to me a few weeks ago to express disappointment over her wedding images and the desire to have some additional bride and groom photos of her and Tim. She wanted some sweet, loving, and snuggly photos since she didn't feel like these were captured on her wedding day. Sweet and snuggly photos are what I do best, so I was super excited to capture these for her! And it's so fun that Natalie and Time got to dress up in their wedding outfits and play bride and groom again!
Although the forecast looked clear, when we showed up to Rock Quarry Garden, it started POURING rain! We made the best of it, and I think the photos turned out SO cute! It rained on Natalie and Tim's wedding day too, so their marriage will have extra good luck!
Check out some of my favorite photos from Natalie and Tim's bride and groom photos below! It was such a privilege to get to take these extra wedding photos for them!

Legacy Park Family Photos
Yesterday morning, I had the honor of meeting this sweet family at Legacy Park in Greenville, South Carolina for a quick but FUN mini session! Life with a baby and a toddler can be chaotic, especially when you have two under two. But it’s my job as your photography to capture the love and joy that you share in this stage of life.
My favorite thing about taking photos for a family is helping them preserve their legacy and preserve the memories of what family life is like for them right now, what they love to do together, the energy that their kids have and the fun that they have together. I want to capture the dancing, the tickle fights, the running hand in hand. Any photography can take a picture of you smiling at the camera, but I want to create real joy and real family memories that you will look back on and cherish. It's my job to provide a fun atmosphere for your family to just be yourselves. I want to tell the story of your family. I'm not just here to take that one Christmas card photo for you.
Does this sound like what you're looking for in a family photographer? Do you want candid, FUN, joy-filled, real, and raw photos? I would LOVE to capture family memories for you! Reach out to me over on my contact page!

Biltmore Family Photos
Yesterday morning, I had the absolute pleasure of getting to take newborn photos for a fellow photographer! It is always the biggest honor when another photographer asks me to take family photos for their family! And I loved that Rachel wanted to take her baby's newborn photos at the Biltmore! The Biltmore in Asheville, North Carolina is one of my favorite places in the world. It's acres and acres and acres of grounds are absolutely stunning with so many different types of scenery to use as a photo backdrop. But my personal favorite backdrop at the biltmore is the absolutely stunning Blue Ridge mountains. The gorgeous mountains are my favorite thing about Asheville.
Everything about this session was perfect! From the weather to the mountains, to the sweet family with two happy babies, to the perfect outfit selections by the Miller family. I could not have asked for a better newborn and family session to photograph! It was one of my favorite sessions of all time!
Want your own family session at the Biltmore in Asheville, North Carolina! Please reach out to me, because I would absolutely LOVE to create photos like this for your beautiful family as well!
Enjoy just a few of my favorite photos from the Miller family's first family photoshoot as a family of four with their little newborn baby Charlotte. I hope you love them as much as I do!

Greenville Family Photographer
This morning, I had SO much fun photographing the Lapresi Family! With a one year old and two dogs, there was a lot of chaos - in all the best ways! This may be an unpopular photography opinion, but I absolutely LOVE getting to photograph toddlers! They are so joyful and just want to have fun! Those are qualities that make family photos amazing and full of raw emotion! They are always so entertaining, and I absolutely love the thrill and the challenge of finding what makes them laugh and smiling, figuring out the best ways to entertain and get reactions out of them, and getting those amazing shots during the few seconds I have before they try to run off. Seriously - I love toddlers!
We met at the Furman Rose garden - one of my all time favorite locations! The morning light was stunning this morning, and luckily it wasn't too hot. Although he did get a little sweaty chasing around a one year old and two dogs. We also used a woodsy location on campus that I haven't gotten to use in a session yet. I always love getting to explore new spots at my old favorite locations.
I am absolutely in love with this session. Check out just a few of my favorite photos below! I hope you love them just as much as I do!

In-home first birthday photos in Greenville, SC
It means the world to me when families keep coming back to me to capture all of their babies' milestones. I love getting to watch families grow throughout the years. It's so nice for the families, too, because the kids get more and more comfortable with me and being in front of my camera the more I get to photograph them and the more family photo sessions that we get to do together. Getting to capture these precious memories for sweet families is such an honor. It's families like these that make me absolutely love my job.
I got to photograph Amanda, Mitch, and Mason for the second time last weekend. Our first session together was for Amanda's first mother's day. And this past session together was for Mason's first birthday. First birthday's are a big deal in the Korean culture, and it was such an honor to be a part of. First, we captured some family photos of the three of them with Mason dressed in his hanbok. Then, we did a cake smash. Mason was so sweet and kept offering cake to his mom and dad. Then after he was all messy and blue from the icing, he wanted to give his mom and dad lots of hugs. It was adorable!
Enjoy just a few of my favorite photos from Mason's first birthday family photo session! I hope you love them as much as I do!

Greer, SC Family Photographer
This morning, I had the absolute pleasure of photographing The Rusher's first professional family photos as a family of three! It is always such a huge honor for me to get to take the very first set of family photos for a new little family. We took these photos at my absolute favorite location in the Greenville area, Furman University. We started in the rose garden, which is so beautiful this time of year, and we ended on the Lake Loop trail with the tall grass and the beautiful view of Paris Mountain.
One thing that is so important to me as a family photographer is that you walk away from your family photo session with more than just beautiful family photos to cherish and hang on your walls. You walk away with sweet, REAL family memories to cherish forever. I like to get to know the families that I photograph before their family photo session by sending a little questionnaire to learn about them and the personalities of each of their kids. I use this information to tailor my family session specifically to each family. I know what makes the kids laugh. I know what games and activities the family will enjoy. This helps each member of the family feel special and involved in the session. I want EVERYONE to have fun while we take your photos!
I hope you enjoy a few favorites of my session this morning with Arianna, Austin, and little Roman!

Family Photos at Cleveland Park in Downtown Greenville, SC
I absolutely LOVED getting to photograph Mary, Hunter, and little Rylee again! The last time I got to have this adorable little family in front of my camera, Rylee was still in Mary's belly! That maternity session was so fun for me, because Mary was due with Rylee right around the same time I was due with Lily. So, of course, it was so fun to get to finally meet baby Rylee after getting to document Mary's pregnancy with her. I'm so thankful for returning clients, because it is just so special to me to get to watch and document these families continue to grow year after year.
Mary and Hunter close Cleveland Park in downtown Greenville, SC for their family photos. We chose a morning session, which is perfect during the summer to avoid the heat of the day. And it is usually a great time of day for babies. I love the trees, the tall grass, and the morning light. I have a spot that I love to use that is nice and quiet, so the little ones don't get too distracted, and it always works out perfectly. I also love that it has close, free parking.
I can't believe that Rylee is almost one whole year old! It was such a joy to capture such special moments for this sweet family. Enjoy just a few of my favorite photos from this family photo session below!

Family Photos in Falls Park on the Reedy
This morning was the perfect summer morning here in Greenville, South Carolina. It was the perfect temperature and we got a beautiful sunrise with that glowy, morning light. Katy and Logan picked the perfect spot for their family photos: downtown Greenville in the middle of Falls Park on the Reedy River. The lighting was perfect in all of the beautiful garden areas of Falls Park. We walked down to the beach area to take some photos underneath of Liberty Bridge with the falls and downtown Greenville in the background of Katy, Logan, and little Emmy's family photos. We then walked over to the little waterfall and then to the open brick building on the other side of the street.
One thing I absolutely loved about this session is that it took place on the day before little Emmy's first birthday! I think a photoshoot is the absolute perfect way to celebrate a birthday, especially a baby's first birthday! I'm so excited that I was able to get this full gallery back to the family in time for Emmy's birthday, too! Emmy did such an amazing job taking photos during our session! I loved all of her beautiful hair!
Here are a few of my favorite photos from Logan, Katy, and Emmy's family photo session at Falls Park on the Reedy in downtown Greenville, South Carolina. I hope you enjoy these family photos as much as I do!

Greenville, SC Baby Photographer
This past week, Mark, Lily and I went to visit our families for Memorial Day weekend. I always love to try to take a few photos for our family members when we visit. I especially love getting to photograph my sister-in-law, Hannah's, family. If you remember my post about mine and Mark's love story, you'll know that Hannah is one of my best friends from college. Through her, I became friends with her brother Mark and we ended up dating 8 years after we met! Now we are married and my best friend became my sister in law. And then to make it even more special, we got pregnant right at the same time (not on purpose). Our babies were due only 6 days apart. Henry came early, so he was born about 3 weeks before Lily was. It's been so fun to have babies the same age and have someone in the exact same stage if parenting as you!
We had a few minutes free the morning that we were leaving to go back home, so we used the opportunity to take some cute mommy and me photos of Hannah and Henry. We just stepped out into Hannah's front yard and we had some beautiful lighting since it was only about 2 hours after sunrise. I love the fun relationship that Hannah has with Henry. It was been so fun getting to watch her become a mom. And I love getting to capture that special relationship whenever I can.
I hope you love these photos as much as I do!

Biltmore Family Photographer
Usually, I'm the one behind the camera taking beautiful photos of families in stunning locations. But this past weekend, I got to switch things up and get in front of the camera with my own little family! This was our first time getting our family photos taken by another photographer! I took Lily's newborn photos, and I handed my camera to a family member to take some of the three of us together when she was a few weeks old. Other than that, it's mainly been me taking photos of Mark and Lily and Mark taking photos of me and Lily with a few tripod photos of the three of us mixed in.
As I'm sure you can understand, I'm so picky when it comes to choosing a photographer for my own family photos. After searching all over Asheville and Greenville, I found a photographer I absolutely LOVE, Rachel Marie Photography. I love how her work is light, but not overexposed and the perfect mixture of posed and candid photos. That can be so hard to find! I was so thankful that she was willing to shoot these for us and let me edit them myself.
We just bought annual passes to the Biltmore, and we couldn't think of a better place to take our photos! There are so many beautiful spots on the Biltmore grounds for family photos, but my personal favorite is the mountain views on the side of the Biltmore house.
Enjoy a few of my favorite photos from my own family session!
