Best Time of Year for Fall Family Photos in Greenville, SC

If you’ve ever wondered when the best time of year for fall family photos in Greenville, SC really is, you’re not alone. Fall is by far one of the most popular times for family portraits — and for good reason. Between the golden light, crisp air, and stunning foliage, it’s hard to beat the beauty of this season in the Upstate. But knowing when to schedule your session can make all the difference in capturing those warm, colorful tones that everyone loves.

Here in Greenville, the fall season unfolds a little differently than it does in other parts of the country. While the mountains near Asheville peak earlier, Greenville’s fall colors tend to arrive a bit later — typically between late October and mid-November. If you want those rich golds, soft oranges, and beautiful amber tones, aim for the first or second week of November. That’s when the colors at local favorites like Paris Mountain State Park, Furman University, and Conestee Nature Preserve are at their very best.

This sweet family joined me for their fall session right in that golden window. Mom and Dad brought their two adorable kids — a six-year-old boy and a four-year-old girl — for a relaxed, joy-filled session surrounded by soft fall color. The light filtered perfectly through the trees, giving everything a warm, glowing feel. We played, laughed, and captured all the little moments that make family photos so meaningful — snuggles, tickles, and those sweet in-between looks that show just how much they adore each other.

Their outfits were perfect for the season too. They kept things simple and timeless with a soft cream sweater, a deep green corduroy shirt, a denim dress for their daughter, and cozy layers of plaid and neutrals for their son. These tones photograph beautifully against fall foliage, and the combination gave their gallery that classic, cozy autumn feel.

So if you’re planning ahead, the best time of year for fall family photos in Greenville, SC is from the last week of October through mid-November. Every year is a little different depending on rainfall and temperature, but that’s when you can expect the most vibrant colors and prettiest golden light.

If you’re dreaming of your own fall family session surrounded by the beauty of the season, I would love to photograph your family this year. You can view my upcoming mini session dates and book directly on my website — or download my full pricing guide if you’re looking for a longer, more personalized session.

No matter when you schedule, your photos will capture the love and joy of your family during one of the most beautiful times of year in Greenville.

Peak Fall Colors at Paris Mountain State Park in Greenville, SC

Peak Fall Colors at Paris Mountain State Park in Greenville, SC are pure magic. November in the Upstate is when the leaves finally explode into those rich reds, deep golds, and warm yellows that everyone waits for. Paris Mountain is one of my favorite places to photograph families this time of year because the light filters through the trees so beautifully and the trails feel peaceful and cozy. It is the perfect setting for short, sweet mini sessions.

This precious family joined me for my Paris Mountain fall minis and I was so honored because mama is a photographer herself. When another photographer trusts you with her own family, it means the world. She and her husband have three little boys, all four and under, and they were the cutest. We had boys running, boys exploring, boys climbing on mom, and so many snuggles. I love photographing families with several small children because the smiles are so real and the movement keeps everyone happy. Their neutral outfits were perfect against the colorful forest. Cream, olive, and tan always photograph so well in the fall.

Even in just 15 minutes we captured a full story of this season. Brothers laughing together. Mama holding her baby close. Dad tossing his youngest in the air. All of it surrounded by the prettiest fall color that Paris Mountain gives us each year. That is what I love most about minis. They are quick and easy for little ones, but you still walk away with a gallery full of warm, joyful, connection filled images.

It’s the kind of place where memories come alive and every photo feels like a postcard.

If you’re dreaming of family photos that feel both luxurious and heartfelt, The Cliffs at Glassy Chapel is an incredible choice. The scenery alone makes you pause and take it all in — and when you pair that with genuine smiles and sweet family connection, the results are pure magic.

What a dream session this was. I’ll happily photograph at Glassy Mountain Chapel any time! If you’d love fall photos with a view that feels like you’re standing on top of the world, I’d love to create something beautiful for your family here too. If you’re a member of the Cliffs Community, I would love to work with your family!

Fall Family Photos in Mauldin, South Carolina

The fall season in South Carolina brings the most beautiful light and cozy family moments. The golden fields, soft breeze, and gentle warmth in the air make Mauldin the perfect place for your fall family photos. Every year, I host mini sessions here in the Upstate, and I love watching families laugh, play, and connect while surrounded by nature’s beauty.

This sweet family joined me for one of my fall mini sessions near Mauldin. The soft sunlight filtering through the trees and the golden tones of the grass created such a dreamy backdrop for their photos. Their little ones were full of energy and giggles, and their parents embraced every moment—snuggling, playing, and soaking in these fleeting years.

I always encourage families to let go of perfection during their sessions. The best images come from genuine laughter, sweet hugs, and quiet moments together. This family did just that. Their session felt effortless and full of joy, which is exactly what I love most about photographing families in the fall.

Photographer for Fall Family Photos in Simpsonville, South Carolina

The crisp air, golden light, and soft rustle of fall leaves make this season one of the most beautiful times of year for family photos in Simpsonville, South Carolina. I absolutely love capturing families as they snuggle close and enjoy the cozy, sentimental feel that autumn brings.

This sweet family joined me for one of my fall mini sessions at a beautiful grassy field location in Simpsonville. I love how their soft, neutral outfits complemented the natural tones of the field. The light tans, creams, and soft blues looked absolutely perfect against the warm fall backdrop. Their two girls were so sweet together—laughing, hugging, and sharing those little moments that make family photos so special.

One of my favorite parts about fall sessions is how relaxed and fun they can be. The girls played and giggled while mom and dad soaked in the moments together. You could feel how close this family is and how much love they share. These photos are the kind that will be cherished for years to come—the ones that truly capture the joy of this season of life.
